The American Rescue Plan authorized by Congress in March was a tremendous piece of legislation which increased subsidies offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace. For individuals and families, this means the cost of their Marketplace health insurance decreased, giving folks more money in their pocket to pay for rent, groceries and other essential expenses. Many folks have heard from friends or via social media that health insurance is unaffordable, doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions or they can’t see their family doctor. Here are the facts: If you enroll through the Health Insurance Marketplace and your income is under a certain limit, the cost of your insurance may be subsidized by the Federal government and can be very affordable. Also, the Affordable Care Act makes it is illegal for health insurers to discriminate against people who have pre-existing conditions and, your family doctor is most likely in network with one of the Marketplace health plans offered. The bottom line is “Knowledge is Power”! Knowing the facts about health insurance and plans can help protect you and your family from financial hardship if someone becomes ill or injured without insurance. Enrollment under the American Rescue Plan ends May 15, 2021 so if you want to apply plan you should act soon. Enrolling in a Marketplace plan can be a bit complex.
